It is widely believed that the first crispy chicken sandwich was made by Truett Carthy in 1946. A local restaurant owner in Atlanta, in his attempt to find the perfect alternative to the popular hamburger, is credited to have invented the crispy chicken sandwich.

Carthy wanted to make something just as delicious and a big of a hit as a hamburger when he stumbled upon the idea of making chicken sandwiches. At first, he grilled a piece of chicken and jammed it between two buns, naming it Chick-fil-A.

Make your very own crispy chicken sandwich that is crispy outside and a perfect melt in the mouth on the inside. Marinated in a well-seasoned mixture this chicken is filled with flavors.

Ingredients –

For the marinade

2 piece boneless chicken breasts sliced in halves

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder

1 tbsp hot sauce

For coating the chicken

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder, pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder

2 tsp salt

Neutral flavored oil to fry

For the sandwich

4 burger buns toasted

4 lettuce leaves

8 Onion rings

1 tomato sliced

Mayonnaise or thousand island sauce


Marinade the chicken in the buttermilk and species for at least 3 hours or overnight.

In a flat plate mix all the coating ingredients and dip the marinated chicken after removing excess marinade.

Heat about 1” oil in a shallow pan and add the chicken pieces in. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side at 300-320 degrees F. Once golden brown, removed it on an absorbent sheet to soak excess oil.

Toast your buttered buns and top them with your favorite toppings and sauce. Place the chicken piece in between and serve hot!
